Looking for places to visit in Romania? Want to know about the best cities, castles, national parks and spectacular off-the-beaten-path destinations? You’re at the right place.
Romania is our neighboring country, and we took several trips there. It has amazing cultural heritage, but we love the Carpathians even more – such a remote, unspoilt mountain range you’d never even expect in Europe! Scroll below to read our tips and guides that help you see the best of Romania.
Best time to visit Romania
Like most countries in Central Europe, Romania has a continental climate with four seasons. Summers are usually warm, springs can be windy and unpredictable, winters are cold, and it snows in the mountains. Actually, it can be chilly and rainy in the Carpathians even in the summer (uhm… Retezat, looking at you).
The best time to enjoy the beaches of the Black Sea and hike at higher elevations in the Carpathians. However, summer is very busy – as anywhere in Europe.
April – May & Sept – Oct
Late spring and early September comes with fine weather and fewer visitors. Shoulder season is a good time for sightseeing, and there are lots of hiking opportunities, as well.
Nov – March
HIGH SEASON FOR SKIING
Though winter in general is a low season for travel in Romania, ski resorts are busy between mid-December and February.

We’ve been travelling together for more than 9 years, recently with our 2 years old little boy who made us an adventurous trio. We have extensively travelled throughout Europe and the USA, especially California. We’ve had a wonderful campervan trip in Australia where we dream to return.
After living in Budapest for 6 years, we moved to British Columbia this September, and we can’t wait to explore Canada, this vast country that’s our new home for now. We’d also like to visit more places in the USA, Central and South America in the near future.
