They say April is the most foolish month of the year and it was certainly true for this April in terms of weather. It started with a sunny, warm weekend that reminded us more of summer than spring. But then two weeks later we had snowstorms. And April, of course, didn’t pass without us being soaked on several occasions during our trips. But start complaining about the rain and you’ll get snow the next day – that’s the lesson learned for April. So no more complaints. 😛
But why the hell am I writing a whole paragraph about the weather? It’s supposed to be one of the most boring topics in the world still we are quite obsessed with it. As we get close to a weekend we regularly check the forecast to see whether it’s worth trying to do a hiking trip somewhere in the area. Because that’s one of our favorite things to do! And we had a very nice hiking trip to Bükk National Park in April. Then came our visit to Poland at Easter…
Highlights of April
Our second visit to Poland. After visiting Krakow last spring we were looking forward to return to Poland. It has so many gorgeous cities and castles that it was not easy to decide where to go next. Finally we ended up with three cities on our itinerary: Warsaw, Łódź and Wrocław. And it turned out to be just perfect! Warsaw was our absolute favorite but the other two have also added color to our visit. We’re going to tell a lot more about each of them soon…
Thousands of wildflowers in Bükk National Park. So we had only one perfectly sunny weekend in April and it was exactly the weekend we picked for wildflower hunting in the Hungarian mountains. This was one of those rare occasions when our timing was just perfect – honestly, it was luck. Anyway, we spent a beautiful weekend hiking in Bükk National Park and enjoying the countless wildflowers covering the meadows in vibrant colors. Sunshine, blue skies and pretty flowers… It was one of those weekends when everything seemed good in this world.

Coming up in May
May is going to start with an old dream coming true: visiting Barcelona! And this will be our first time in Spain as well. Any ideas what not to miss there? Don’t hesitate to share in the comments!
Since May is kind of a kick-off time for waterfall hunting we are planning some hikes in the lovely glens of Slovak Paradise National Park. We should probably use part of our time in Slovakia to explore the country’s cultural heritage as well. Like Spis Castle or Kosice – both are on our list sooo long ago, it’s about time to visit them finally.
We don’t want to forget about our goal to visit all of Hungary’s national parks by the end of this year either. We certainly have work to do, it’s 4 out of 10 so far.
And how about a romantic spring visit to Vienna? We already have the feeling that May won’t be long enough.
