The Magic Of Autumn At Königsee, Germany

We hope you’re not bored to death by all the autumn photo essays we’ve published lately. Because this is yet another one. 😛 Our only excuse is that we can’t have enough of the beautiful colors of autumn, like ever. And we try to capture this beauty. If you’d rather read something useful, maybe check out our guide to plan a perfect Christmas market trip to Budapest.

Still with us? Then let’s go for a walk around Königsee!

This narrow lake in Germany’s Berchtesgaden National Park looks almost like a fjord. Tucked between the large peaks of the Bavarian Alps, its lakeshore is so steep that there’s no walking path around it. It would be a rather long walk, anyway, since Königsee is about 8 kilometres long and 1.3 kilometres wide.

Königsee is magical in each season. We had the chance to visit it in October for the first time. The harmony of the emerald green water and the yellow leaves amazed us.

A trail by the lakeshore starts from the harbour in the village of Königsee. It runs along the shore for a little while – just enough to get a taste of the beauty of the lake.

But it’s worth continuing on this path up to a viewpoint that offers pretty views of Königsee from above.

Then just sit down on a bench and watch the sun set behind the mountains.
