Switzerland was love at first sight for us. We’ve visited it for the first time this year and as soon as we took our first glance at those giant snowy peaks, lush green alpine meadows and clear blue lakes, we’ve been already in love with this country. Our first visit was also a special time of the year: April.
By April the meadows are already green and full of blooming wildflowers, but the high peaks are still covered with snow. We hiked in that abundant greenery at lower elevations and in that sparkling white wonderland at higher elevations. We had our adventures and challenges, we’ve seen breathtaking beauties, we’ve taken hundreds of amazing pictures and we are sharing the best ones with you now! Along with some of our favorite quotes about mountains.
So here they are, the Swiss Alps, our new love:
‘Switzerland is simply a large, lumpy, solid rock with a thin skin of grass stretched over it.’ (Mark Twain)
‘Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity.’ (John Muir)
‘Mountains are not stadiums where I satisfy my ambition to achieve, they are the cathedrals where I practice my religion.’ (Anatoli Boukreev)
‘The climb speaks to our character, but the view, I think, to our souls.’ (Lori Lansens)
‘I’m a person of the mountains and the open paddocks and the big empty sky, that’s me, and I knew if I spent too long away from all that I’d die; I don’t know what of, I just knew I’d die.’ (John Marsden)
